Our Argentinian Yerba Mate is sourced directly from an organic farm in Argentina, which has held its organic certification since 1993. This particular grade of Mate is specially made for us, ensuring that it only contains leaves. In many cases, Mate available in the market includes both leaves and stems from the plant. Yerba Mate, scientifically known as Ilex paraguariensis, is an evergreen plant belonging to the holly family, Aquifoliaceae. While the plant can grow as tall as 10-12 meters, it is usually pruned to a height of 4-6 meters. Although the plant does produce small flowers and fruit, only the distinctive oval-shaped leaves and stems are selected for processing. The resulting Yerba Mate provides a crisp, herbaceous, and vegetal aroma and taste.
